Symmetry / Asymmetry Enlightenment for a New Era — A Way of Thinking Beyond Modernism — This exhibition is a quiet attempt to reconsider the idea of “order” that surrounds us through the lens of symmetry and asymmetry.Rationality, standardization, and symmetrical structures have long made the world more intelligible, offering a sense of security and efficiency. At the same time, the fluctuations of nature, subtle differences, and the beauty of that which escapes our will continue to exist silently beside us. In this exhibition, we take a certain distance from the modern gaze that seeks to fully order the world, and instead turn our attention to the expressive richness of nature. Our chosen material is wood veneer, a thin layer drawn from a tree. The grain patterns that emerge from a single trunk resemble one another, yet are never identical. They hold within them the time of the tree, the seasons it has passed through, and the silent memory of nature. There is an old craft technique known as bookmatching, in which the grain is mirrored to create a harmonious pattern. The symmetry that emerges through this process does not arise from perfect uniformity, but from another kind of order—one that quietly appears between the fluctuations of nature and individual differences. Nature is, in its essence, asymmetrical and can never be fully controlled. And yet, in encountering this irregularity, human beings have found beauty, form, and relationship. Within the process of working with veneer, one can glimpse a quiet act of creation—one that does not seek to dominate nature, but instead searches for a new equilibrium through dialogue with it. Here, we seek another, gentler form of enlightenment: one that unfolds beyond Modernism. Order and fluctuation. Symmetry and asymmetry. Will and chance. The quiet harmony that arises between them. In Milan, in the springtime, we hope to share with you a moment in which seeing, sensing, and thinking may slowly be woven together once again.
