On the occasion of Milan Design Week 2026, Gebrüder Thonet Vienna presents Continuum, a cultural project that reactivates the brand’s historical archive as a dynamic tool for research and design. The presentation of products born from the reinterpretation of historic pieces intertwines with a hybrid artistic production, between analogue and digital and in dialogue with international artist Quayola, that explores the foundational codes of GTV’s identity. GTV’s production, originating from a pioneering act of technological innovation ahead of its time, represents a universal heritage within the culture of living. Continuum embodies the evolution of an identity that now projects itself into the present, acknowledging the relevance of a human-centered approach to technology. The archive becomes living matter: gesture—both human and technical—redefines its meaning, while history, through its objects, is reactivated within the language of contemporary art in its most current interpretation. Within the project, international artist Quayola brings into dialogue the work Transient – Impermanent Paintings, a generative audiovisual installation in which sound and image are deeply interconnected. A custom-developed computational system simultaneously generates abstract visual compositions and musical scores, shaping a contemplative and synesthetic environment. Rhythm, variation, and the balance between different forces become central elements of the experience: music becomes time, and time is translated into image. The result is a meditative space conceived for prolonged observation, where technology and gesture engage in a silent and harmonious dialogue, reflecting the continuous balance between past and present that runs through the identity of Gebrüder Thonet Vienna.
