For the second year, on the occasion of Salone del Mobile during Tortona Design Week , IN BETWEEN — a collective project of intercultural management and mediation— interprets contemporary Ecuador through design and its creative process , integrating art, living cultures, and research through a selection of works by eight designers united by high-quality craftsmanship, technical excellence, and a commitment to preserving tradition. Ecuador continues its journey in presenting its identity to the world, balancing tradition, creativity, and innovation . Thanks to their ability to reinterpret tradition through a contemporary lens, the designers have created eight distinct works, each characterized by a shared openness to experimentation and creative collaboration. Ranging from sculptural pieces to home objects—lamps, mirrors, rugs, and cushions—and, finally, a book, the works are made using natural materials such as eco-friendly paper, fibers extracted from Amazonian plants, wool dyed with natural pigments, reclaimed textiles, mycelium-based biomaterials, as well as ceramic and metal. IN BETWEEN contributes to the preservation of artisanal knowledge and raw materials , fostering conscious connections between heritage, innovation, and international discourse. The initiative is part of Tortona Design Week 2026, which this year presents the concept “THINKING BETTER, Look Back to Shape the Future”: an invitation to look back not with nostalgia, but as a design act—transforming memory into innovation and placing people back at the center of design. The exhibition will be on view from April 13 to 27, 2026, at Via Tortona 14 . IN BETWEEN is promoted by the Instituto de Fomento de las Artes, Innovación y Creatividades, with the institutional support of the Embassy of Ecuador in Italy and the Consulate General of Ecuador in Milan.
