On Sunday 26 April, Satateca will open its doors: an exhibition space in the centre of Milan, designed to bring a fresh perspective to the art world. Teca will be the empty space that houses the experience and interaction between the artwork and visitors; it will come to life through numerous artists, selected to share their own vision. Satateca is conceived as a fleeting, one-off moment, never to be repeated. It will exist for a single day , elevating the experience to a sensory necessity, an act of rebellion. The Teca will come to life on that day, evoking and crystallising, in that single moment, the existence of itself, of the work and of its experience. The Teca welcomes, embraces, and fades away in a rhythmic cycle that will unfold without warning, transcending time, beginning on 26 April, with a series of works that will bring it to life. On 26 April, the first exhibition showcasing the work of Yuri Sata , a contemporary artist and calligrapher, will take place. Satateca has chosen to begin with his work: an entirely handmade armchair , born of a desire to translate the ‘Type 07’ fonts into a physical form – a synthesis of influences rooted in his visual repertoire and drawn from the world of letters. Fonts, typography, calligraphy and graffiti are, in fact, the main sources of inspiration that come together in this personal alphabet, transformed here into a sculptural form. The armchair has been handcrafted and finished by hand using traditional methods. Its structure is derived from a sheet of plywood, cut into sections and then reassembled through successive gluing processes to form the primary structures of the object. Using traditional mortise and tenon joints, the two mirror-image sides take shape and come together in a structural balance that traces an ‘S’ in space , translating the typographic symbol into form and function. The seat deliberately leaves its constituent layers visible, revealing its material construction, and is finished with a high-density foam padding and leather in a distinctive goose-beak colour, an element that introduces a tactile and chromatic dimension in dialogue with the wooden structure. The artist’s vision thus takes shape and becomes three-dimensional, projecting into space a design with meticulous attention to detail , the result of a meticulous and visionary approach.
