Study in Tension Elena Brovelli ’ s Spatial Tension Practice within the design language of SAG’80, Maxalto and Arclinea. Presented during Milano Design Week 2026 , Study in Tension introduces Elena Brovelli’s Spatial Tension Practice into the design system of SAG’80, Maxalto and Arclinea, transforming space into a field of active forces. More than an exhibition, the project unfolds as an operative practice: surfaces are not conceived as supports, but as sensitive devices, capable of responding to minimal stimuli and generating dynamic configurations. Within this process, elements drawn from everyday life are removed from their original function and transformed into tension devices . Their presence is never explicit: it emerges through the deformation of the surface, giving rise to concave and convex forms, as well as essential lines that define a distinct visual language. What appears is not the object itself, but its action — a pressure, a resistance, a curvature. Form does not represent; it records a relationship. In dialogue with the design language of SAG’80, of which Brovelli is an integral part, the Portals define themselves as active thresholds, capable of altering the behavior of space and establishing a balance between tension and presence. Their integration within Maxalto and Arclinea environments reinforces this dimension, situating the practice within a highly defined architectural and material context. Study in Tension does not present objects, but conditions: a method for reading and transforming space, where tension becomes a design language and the surface a device through which space takes shape.
