In the heart of Brera, within the rooms and garden of Palazzo Crivelli, The Garden of Wonders comes to life—an immersive experience that, during Milan Design Week, transforms the expansive spaces into a place of discovery, surprise, and connection. The palace’s 18th-century rooms, together with the areas stretching from the main courtyard to the garden, are reconfigured into a striking and ever-evolving landscape: a true “garden of wonders,” where the best of Italian and international outdoor design engages in dialogue with site-specific artistic interventions and installations created for the occasion. A unique setting that enhances the experiential value of the project, where the boundaries between indoors and outdoors dissolve. At the heart of the exhibition path is “Architectural Genealogies,” created for the occasion by Michele De Lucchi and his studio AMDL CIRCLE and hosted on the ground floor of the palace. Conceived as a map tracing the journey of an idea, the exhibition brings together wooden sculptures, prototypes, sketches, and construction details, revealing the formal connections between De Lucchi’s artistic research and the professional architecture of his studio. It is an exploration linking memory, vision, and future, illustrating the architect’s design methodology—one that preserves the human and intuitive dimension of architecture. At the center of the garden stands “The Missing Ring,” a work by Michele De Lucchi produced by UniFor and presented for the first time in Milan. This walk-through installation allows light to filter through the wooden shingles forming the structure, creating a constantly shifting space: a circular corridor that nearly returns to its starting point, where movement activates the visitor’s thoughts and imagination. The entire garden is structured as a landscape of innovative creations: a selection of newly produced outdoor furnishings welcomes visitors, alongside spaces dedicated to use and sharing, including an event area and an open-air cinema hosting a program of artist videos. On the piano nobile (main floor) of the palace unfolds The Outdoor Library , an exhibition path conceived by Studio Francesca Santambrogio as a living archive of outdoor design. Here, a selection of pieces—all currently in production—traces the evolution of design from the 1920s to today. These are not merely furnishings, but true manifestos of thought, capable of reinterpreting the relationship between space, function, and environment in innovative ways. Completing the experience is a program of activities that animates the exhibition path: the performance series “The Voice of Objects,” created in collaboration with students from the Piccolo Teatro di Milano School, and evening jazz and swing concerts by the group Georgia & The Candymen, which transform the garden each night into a vibrant and engaging space. The Garden of Wonders thus presents itself as an open, immersive environment where visitors can lose themselves among visual suggestions and cultural stimuli, rediscovering the value of slow time, contemplation, and connection with the environment, within the unique context of one of Brera’s most fascinating locations.
